Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1996, she became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debates in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. Mitchell travelled with Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss topics including and the Iran Contra scandal.
