Having been first drawn by the shadows of trees that she saw on grass, she set about delving into a technique thatconversely didn't present the chosen subject as a 2-dimensional representation on canvas. The object becomes a representation of itself, with the canvas carrying an interpretation by painting of the object, particularly when it's a live object or perishable for example, fruit or humans. The style that Alexa paints is ephemeral and only the photographs of her work survive. Photography and painting techniques are tightly coordinated, resulting in a flat, two-dimensional space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. Only certain parts of the image like hair and eyes, display the 3D dimension. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models into the environment around them. This allows them to interact with this world the artist has constructed. By doing so, Meade has dissolved the boundaries between painting, photography and performance.
